About The Deming String Quartet

The Deming String Quartet is Larry Deming and Diane Orson, violins, Barbara Wiggin, viola and Mary Costanza, cello.  The DSQ is available for concert engagements and recording, as well as performances at various functions, including weddings, engagement parties and anniversary parties.

One of the most versatile groups in Connecticut, the Deming String Quartet performs everything from Bach to Bluegrass, from Gregorian Chant to Gershwin and from Joplin Rags to Jazz with a high standard rarely matched.  With many years of experience playing in the best orchestras and chamber ensembles across Connecticut, the four musicians of the DSQ bring a depth of understanding and skill that serves well the music at hand.

Howard Tuvelle writes in the News-Times, “Deming’s pioneering programs are to be admired.  With fine musicians, his casual and communicative manner, people in the audience must have felt closer to the music and performers.”  Tuvelle continues, “…a Deming program is more like a “happening”!  He serves as narrator, arranger, and presenter of the not so often heard instruments and styles of music.  His programs are eclectic, ranging as in this one from the first century to the present…His programs are intended both to entertain and educate…Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” – yes, without the piano, but it was effective.  Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust” probably makes a better piece for a string quartet than it did a song!  Deming’s arrangement was superb.”
